The sports division of BMW M GmbH in the near future will have a hybrid model. The company does not specify deadlines for the release of such a machine, but said that electrification of cars is inevitable and it will affect not only the standard road cars of the German mark.
“We will turn to electrical systems, it’s inevitable”, said Dirk Hacker, explaining that the main purpose of innovation is to increase the dynamic possibilities. “We have great experience in creating serial hybrid model with high performance. It is important however in detail to assess not only the benefits of electrification of a thoroughbred sports car, but the compromises that need it. That’s why we work on special structural solutions”, added he.
Such a move seems perfectly logical, yet luxurious BMW is the first company to offer sporty hybrid model on the market - i8. With electric propulsion also have the current top supercar - McLaren P1, Porsche the 918 Spyder and Ferrari LaFerrari. Future a model of BMW M GmbH will be fully electric and hybrid as the company has done a study that found that customers do not intend to give up the volume of a conventional motor.
At present it is unclear whether the company will offer a hybrid version of its current model or prepare a completely new supercar.
