Audi will equip the basic version of its R8 supercar turbo V6 engine that puts the new generations of the sedan and station wagon S4. These reports Car and Driver, citing its sources. Motor power at R8 will be about 450 hp, which is approximately 100 hp more than the Audi S4. The unit will work in combination with 7-speed automatic gearbox with two clutches. The maximum speed of the base R8, which also features a 4×4 system will be about 300 km/h. It was expected supercar in the base version to get 2.5-liter engine with five cylinders, but Audi’s given up such an opportunity as this would lead to internal competition with their other model - TT RS.
Currently Audi R8 is available only with 5.2-liter V10, which comes in two versions of power - 540 hp or 610 hp. The modification’s V6 engine will be available in early 2018.
